Author Talks with Yukari Morgan
About Me
Hi there. My name is Yukari Morgan. I am a half-Filipino, half Japanese-American that grew up on a military base overseas. I moved to the states for the first time to go to college, and six years later, I returned to Okinawa, my home.
I was fortunate enough to marry one of my best friends from high school, and between raising two cats and our almost four year old son, life’s an adventure!
I’ve always loved writing, but I have also been incredibly shy about sharing my work. That changed when my dad passed away in 2018. He always encouraged me to follow my passion, and losing him made me realize I couldn’t afford to put off chasing my dreams anymore.
So, I dusted off a few story ideas from “back in the day,” found a way to combine them, and The Fall of Eden was born.
The Fall of Eden is a character driven dark fantasy that follows the live of five students as they are drawn to the new kid, Noah. He is quiet, handsome, mysterious, and wherever he goes, people get hurt. If you enjoy a slow burn and creepy vibes, this is the book for you.
Who is Noah? Where did he come from, and most importantly, what is he?
Gemini has always had its share of mystery, but nothing has prepared the small town for its newest student, Noah. Now, students are being attacked, dead bodies are piling up, and people are glimpsing things that shouldn’t be real.
For Alyssa, Arthur, Logan, Rome, and Demi, danger gets up close and personal with each of them. Will Noah be there to help, or to hurt? Is he the enemy, or is there something greater brewing in the darkness? Find out if these five outcasts can resolve their differences in time to save their home — their Eden.
Self-Publishing Journey
I have been writing stories all my life. For the most part, all of my stories were for my eyes only, and occasionally, a close friends would get a peek. I’d never really considered publishing until my mid to late twenties, when some life changing events caused me to ‘sit with The Hermit card.’ It was then I realized this was what I wanted to be when I grow up. It took me until I was in my thirties, but I finally mustered up some courage to follow my dreams.
Right away, I knew I wanted to tell my story my way. Self-publishing was the obvious choice. What I didn’t realize was just how much stuff I was signing up for when I decided I wanted to know firsthand what being a publisher meant. I ended up learning everything the hard way.
After finishing the parts that I knew how to do, (writing the story, editing, and rewriting after receiving beta reader feedback), an onslaught of new adventures awaited. Book and page formatting, typography, efficient file conversion between different programs, (anyone else use Scrivener?), EPUB coding, photo-manipulation, not to mention tasks on the business side like how to file for a copyright and sign up for an LCCN. Let’s just say, I spent a lot more time researching best practices and watching youtube tutorials than I would’ve bet on. And now I’m trying to figure out this advertising part!
On top of juggling the publishing process, I had a baby! My bundle of joy arrived smack-dab in the middle of my first major edit, and to raise an infant, then toddler, then threenager, amidst all the publishing nonsense?
*Phew*
But, this is my passion. I’ve been lucky enough to have people on my journey that refused to let me give up. So to any moms out there reading this that also have that passion and spark for writing, just know that you CAN have it all. Just be patient, don’t give up, and remember to give yourself grace when it comes to timelines, deadlines, and what you think you should or shouldn’t be doing. Everything will happen as its meant to.
Upcoming Projects
I am currently working with an illustrator to release a children’s book. The follow-up to The Fall of Eden is also in the works. There are manuscripts in the Romance genre that I’d like to revisit, as well as a vampire story I am considering releasing on Kindle Vella.
